Sixteen taps and a very good chair

A taproom in the old print works on Foundry Lane. Beer from small breweries we've actually visited, food from a tiny kitchen, records on the shelf and nobody rushing you out.

A row of brass beer taps on a long wooden bar with a pint of amber beer and a pint of stout, brick walls and warm bulbs behind

Everything that's on

From the kitchen

Small menu, done properly

Fried chicken buns, a board of cheese and things in jars, and a vegetable dish that keeps changing. The kitchen is open until nine, and later on Fridays and Saturdays.

See the menu
  • Two fried chicken buns with pickles and a bowl of fries on a wooden board
  • A board of cheese, cured meats, pickles, mustard and sourdough on a scarred wooden table
  • A bowl of roasted cauliflower with tahini, herbs and pomegranate next to a pint of pale beer
A long taproom with wooden tables and mismatched chairs, iron columns, brick walls, plants on shelves and warm hanging bulbs

The place

An old print works with long tables

The presses went in 1987. We kept the iron columns, the brick and the hooks on the ceiling, added long tables, a record player and a lot of plants. There's room for forty, a corner for dogs and a back room you can book for birthdays.

  • A day at Hollow Oak

We spent a brew day with the people who make our house pale, and came back with a new beer for November.

    Breweries

  • Why we serve thirds

A third of a pint is the best way to drink good beer. Here's why we pour so many of them.

    Behind the bar

  • The back room is open

The old type store is now a room for twenty-four, with its own record player. Book it for birthdays, meetings or a long lunch.

Fresh kegs

One short email when something good goes on: a new brewery, a tap takeover, the odd cask. Never more than twice a month.

Pull up a chair

Walk-ins are always welcome. For six or more, or a Friday night, book a table.

Hi! Ask me what's on tap, what's good with the chicken bun, when we're open or what's on this week.
